Key Stage 3

Years 7-8
Pupils study Biology, Chemistry and Physics topics selected to cover a broad range of scientific ideas, to inspire them and give them a good foundation for the start of the GCSE course in Year 9. The programme of study during these two years includes practical work to help develop their understanding of the scientific method and how to carry out experiments safely and successfully. Pupils are assessed periodically in a variety of ways throughout these two years and from these assessments awarded National Curriculum levels.

Year 9
All pupils begin their GCSE science course, following the AQA Combined Science specification. The course contains materials from Biology, Chemistry and Physics and builds on ideas that have been previously met in Years 7 and 8. There are frequent opportunities for pupils to improve their practical work.

Salters' Festival of Chemistry
Each year 4 girls represent LMS at the Salters' Festival of Chemistry and have been past winners of the University Challenge.
