Curriculam Button Two

Years 10 and 11

This year as part of their AQA GCSE courses in English Language and English Literature pupils study two set texts for the English Literature examination and undertake Controlled Assessment tasks for English Language – based on set texts (Extended Reading) and Creative Writing.

In Year 11 they study a Shakespeare play and compare it to another text; other reading includes poetry and non-fiction texts. They will learn to respond in an informed, critical way to these texts and have opportunities for writing in a wide range of forms and genres.

All pupils can improve their English by reading regularly, by taking an interest incurrent affairs and issues, by learning new vocabulary, and by checking, correcting and redrafting work. GCSE pupils should practise writing more incisively and accurately, backing up with evidence any points made.
